Removing the Newspaper Background Color

When the background of an image created from a newspaper that you scanned is dark, you can remove the background color to make text clearly visible.

ATTENTION
  • If you scan the newspaper with [B&W] selected for [Color mode] in the ScanSnap setup window of ScanSnap Manager, [Remove Newspaper Background Color] cannot be applied for the scanned image.

    For details about how to configure the settings for ScanSnap Manager, refer to the ScanSnap Manager Help.

  • If the image created from the newspaper that you scanned contains diagrams or photographs, the color may become brighter or pale colors may disappear by removing the background color from the scanned image.

    The background in an image created from the following newspaper may not be removed.

    • Newspaper with shadow of fold

    • Print-through newspaper

    • Newspaper with a deep colored background

    • Newspaper scanned with the [Thicken color images] checkbox is selected in the [Scanning mode option] window of ScanSnap Manager.

  1. Display the Main Window of ScanSnap Home.

    For details, refer to To Display the Main Window.

  2. In the content data record list view, select a content data record with an image which contains a page with a background color that you want to remove.
  3. Select [Open with ScanSnap Home Viewer] in the menu that appears when you right-click the content data record to display the Viewer Window (Windows).
  4. Click [Switch View] on the [Home] tab and select [Show all] or [Show Pages Panel] in the submenu.
    HINT
    • When the scanned image is with work data, [Remove Newspaper Background Color] cannot be applied.

      If necessary, edit the scanned image in the [ScanSnap Home - Book Image Viewer] window that appears when you click Correct, and then click the [File] tab and select [Save] or [Save as].

      When you select the [Finalize] checkbox in the window that appears for saving images and then save the image, work data is deleted from the scanned image.

    • If fingers are captured in the images created from the newspaper that you scanned, fill in the captured finger areas before you remove the newspaper background color.

  5. Select a page in which the background color is to be deleted in the Pages Panel.

    When you delete the background color on multiple pages, select each page while holding down the [Ctrl] key or [Shift] key.

  6. Click Removing the Newspaper Background Color.
    HINT
    • The image quality may deteriorate if [Remove Newspaper Background Color] is repeatedly applied on the same page.

  7. Click the [File] tab and select [Save] or [Save as] from the file menu.

The background color of the image created from the newspaper is deleted, and characters become clearly visible.

  1. Display the Main Window of ScanSnap Home.

    Click the [ScanSnap Home] icon ScanSnap Home Icon in the application list that appears when you click Launchpad in the Dock.

  2. In the content data record list view, select a content data record with an image which contains a page with a background color that you want to remove.
  3. In the menu that appears when you click the content data records while holding down the [control] key, select [Tools] → [Remove Newspaper Background Color] to display the [Remove Newspaper Background Color] window.
    HINT
    • If fingers are captured in the images created from the newspaper that you scanned, fill in the captured finger areas before you remove the newspaper background color.

  4. Select a page in which the background color is to be deleted in the Pages Panel.

    When you delete the background color on multiple pages, select each page while holding down the [command command] key or [Shift] key.

  5. Click Removing the Newspaper Background Color.
    HINT
    • The image quality may deteriorate if [Remove Newspaper Background Color] is repeatedly applied on the same page.

  6. Click the [Save and Exit] button.

The background color of the image created from the newspaper is deleted, and characters become clearly visible.
