Multifeed Detection Conditions

Multifeed is an error in which two or more sheets are fed through the ADF at once.
Multifeed detection is performed by either checking the overlapping of documents, length of the documents, or the combination of both. The following conditions are required for an accurate detection.

1) Detection by overlapping
  • Paper weight: 20 to 209.3 g/m² (5.5 to 56.1 lb) (thickness: 0.025 to 0.25 mm or 0.0009 to 0.0098 inch)
  • Do not punch holes within 35 mm (1.38 in.) of the vertical lines in the left, center and right of the document. See Fig.1.
  • Do not attach other documents within 35 mm (1.38 in.) of the vertical lines in the left, center and right of the document. See Fig.1.
2) Detection by length
  • Load documents of the same length when batch-scanning them from the hopper.
  • Variance in document lengths: 1% or less
  • Do not punch holes within 35 mm (1.38 in.) over the vertical center line of the document. See Fig. 2.
3) Detection by overlapping and length
  • Load documents of the same thickness and the same length when batch-scanning them from the hopper.
  • Paper weight: 20 to 209.3 g/m² (5.5 to 56.1 lb) (thickness: 0.025 to 0.25 mm or 0.0009 to 0.0098 inch)
  • Variance in document lengths: 1% or less
  • Do not punch holes within 35 mm (1.38 in.) of the vertical lines in the left, center and right of the document. See Fig.1.
  • Do not attach other documents within 35 mm (1.38 in.) of the vertical lines in the left, center and right of the document. See Fig.1.

Scanning

ScanningCAUTION:
  • Multifeed detection is not very effective when the papers are stuck together due to static, pasting, and so on.
  • Multifeeds cannot be detected in the area of 15 mm from the leading edge of the document.
  • The areas in Fig.1 can be changed in the Software Operation Panel. To view the Software Operation Panel, select the [Start] menu → [All Programs] → [fi Series] → [Software Operation Panel].
