New Release of High-Speed Image Scanner - fi-8040, for PC-less “DirectScan” Functionality

Actualize simple scanning with a 4.3-inch touch screen and network compatibility

Yokohama, Japan, May 25, 2023- PFU Limited, a subsidiary of Ricoh Company, Ltd., the world’s leading(1) scanner manufacturer, today, launches a new model in its lineup, the RICOH fi-8040, an A4 sized scanner with ADF(2).
Replacing the well-received entry model fi-7030 and responding to the voices from Small-Medium Enterprises (SMEs), the fi-8040 is newly equipped with a 4.3-inch touch screen and supports LAN connectivity. It also offers a novel function, the “DirectScan” function, which allows users to save scanned image data directly to a network folder, without the need for a PC(3). The fi-8040, despite being compact, houses high-speed scanning capabilities at 40 ppm / 80 ipm (duplex), 1.5 times the speed of its predecessor model. This entry model is the ideal device for customers who want to digitize all sorts of documents and facilitate a paperless workplace with lower initial costs.

[Key Features]

1. Scanning by simply operating the touch screen

“DirectScan” function for PC-less scanning and saving to a designated destination

The fi-8040 comes with the new “DirectScan” function, which enables scanning without the need to operate a PC, by setting the storage locations and scanning configurations in advance and then simply selecting a task and destination on the touch screen. Save scans directly to network folders and quickly share data with various departments and remote office environments.

Attach scans directly to e-mails and share them with multiple users

With the “DirectScan” function, attach and send scans directly by e-mail, without operating a PC. The fi-8040 is the ideal scanner for use with multiple users in an office, by functioning as an information sharing tool and a possible replacement for conventional fax machines.

Equipped with a 4.3-inch touch screen

Since administrators set the scanning job settings in advance, users can scan by simply operating the fi-8040’s large touch screen, which is easy to view and user friendly. Image data scanned in PC-less mode is displayed recognizably as thumbnails. Users are able to instantly view the scanned results and check for any errors. They can also confirm the image destination, scanned volume, file size, and other details before sending scans by e-mail.

“Scanner Central Admin Desktop” for efficient management of multiple scanners

Serverless centralized management software is available, which enables administrators to manage and monitor multiple scanners(4), cutting down on the time and costs needed to deploy a large number of scanners across multiple departments and remote work environments.
It comes with a simple and intuitive interface, which enables users to set up “DirectScan” settings as well as the network settings easily, distributing the settings to multiple scanners at once through the network.

2. Boosted user experience

High speed scans at 40 ppm / 80 ipm (duplex), 1.5 times faster than its predecessor

The fi-8040 is capable of scanning both sides of A4 documents at 40 ppm / 80 ipm (duplex, color, 300 dpi). The scanner handles a variety of documents ranging from thin paper to plastic cards, with stable and accurate paper feeding, a signature of the fi Series scanners. Additionally, the fi-8040 comes equipped with a "Manual Feed Mode" that enables easy scanning of documents including A3 size, bi-folds, and duplicate copies, without the need for a carrier sheet option.

Generates high quality image data for business use

The unique optical system technology “PFU Clear Image Capture” generates high quality images with no color shift. On top of that, the advanced image processing function of the fi Series dedicated scanner driver “PaperStream IP (TWAIN/ISIS compatible)” produces images with highly visible text suitable for optical character recognition (OCR) and smoothly integrates with existing business systems.

Supports network compatibility

Works with USB 3.2 and wired LAN for connectivity in environments without wireless connections.

3. Seamless integration with business applications and cloud services

By using the “PaperStream NX Manager(5)” server software, scanned images can be linked to business software applications and cloud services(6). Introduce the scanner to an existing environment where the fi-8190 series and fi-7300NX are centrally operated, and elevate work efficiency.
