Operation / Specification

Q1 How do I backup and migrate data?
A1 Since Rack2-Filer [Viewer Settings] permits you to identify where data has been saved, you can copy the whole folder (Library Root Folder) into another location on your computer. Click the [Browse] button, which appears in the [LibRoot Folders] tab, located under [Rack2-Filer Options], to open the data that you have copied into another location on your PC.
Q2 I would like to put multiple files into one binder at once. How do I do that?
A2 Open the binder into which you would like to insert the files. Click the [File] button on the left-hand side to open the destination where the files are saved, select multiple files (by using the [Ctrl] key and the mouse), and then click [Open].
Q3 How can I avoid attaching an index to every file?
A3 Go to [Page Insertion], which is located in [Viewer Settings], and disable "Automatically insert divider sheet when inserting files".
Q4 How do I change or delete items in"Contents"?
A4 Right-click on the page and select [Manipulations] - [Edit Page's Contents Entry] to edit the Entry Type/Entry Title.
Remove the page from"Contents" by deleting the "Entry Title" in the [Contents Entry] dialog box and click [OK].
Q5 How can I change the order in which items appear in"Contents"?
A5 [~V4]
Chapters / items are automatically arranged in the "Contents" in the same order that the divider sheets are arranged. You can change the order that items appear in the"Contents"by copying the images whose order you want to change into Clipboard and then pasting these images into the appropriate order. Items will then be rearranged in"Contents"in the appropriate order.
[V5~]
Open the contents page.
Drag and drop the items whose order you wish to change.
Q6 How do I directly import images into Rack2-Filer from TWAIN supporting Fujitsu fi-Series scanners?
A6 Click [Select Scanner] in [Viewer Settings], which appears under the [Scanner Insertion] tab ([Page Insertion] tab). Then click the [Scanner] button after confirming that the binder that you want to import the scanned data into is displayed.
The scanner will start scanning the document that has been placed in its hopper and these images will be imported into the binder that you have selected.

(Note)
If a TWAIN supporting Fujitsu fi-Series scanner and a Fujitsu ScanSnap scanner are connected to the PC that you are using, be sure that you unplug the USB cable that links the ScanSnap to your PC when importing data that has been scanned with the fi-Series scanner.
Q7 How do I enlarge displayed images?
A7 1) Switch the display mode to"1-page Mode".
2) Drag the mouse to the area that you would like to zoom in on.
3) Select "Full screen (no control icons)" in [Window Mode], which appears under the [General] tab, which is located in [Viewer Settings].
Q8 How do I import original Word and Excel data into Rack2-Filer?
A8 You can do this by enabling [Retain source files by...], which is located under the [Page Insertion] tab, which is located in [Viewer Settings].

(Note)
Scanner generated data cannot be imported as original data (source file data), because scanners create image file data, not source file data.
Q9 How can I send files that have been saved in Rack2-Filer binders to another computer?
A9 Select the binder, click the [Binder] button and select [Export Binder], and then specify where you want to export the data.
Rack2-Filer then creates 2 files from the files that you have selected (one a PDF file and the other an "ini" file). Send both of these files to the other computer. Start up Rack2-Filer in the other computer, specify the copied PDF file(s) in the [Import Binder] dialog box (click [Binder] button and select [Import Binder]) and Rack2-Filer will import the file in binder form.

(Note)
Non-Rack2-Filer supporting PCs permit the browsing of these files with Adobe® Reader® etc.
Q10 Can I import landscape images in a manner that shows these images in landscape?
A10 You can do this in specific situations:
[~V3]
Version 3 or lower only permits the importing of documents in a"portrait orientation".
However, these images can then be rotated to the proper orientation with Rack2-Viewer window, after they have been imported.
[V4~]
Version 4 or higher enables users to import images in landscape. Remove the check from the"Automatically rotate landscape pages to portrait (text orientation is ignored)"from under the [Page Insertion] tab, which is located in [Viewer Settings].
Q11 How can I import password protected PDF files?
A11 It depends on whether or not you have enabled"When inserting pages from password protected and printing-restricted PDF files, attach source files instead of showing actual contents"in [Viewer Settings].

ON: An icon is shown at the bottom of the Rack2-Filer screen instead of the actual image in cases when a password protected or printing-restricted PDF file has been imported into Rack2-Filer. This PDF can than be opened by double-clicking the icon, which starts Adobe® Acrobat® or Adobe® Reader®

OFF: You will be asked to enter a password when importing password protected PDF files. The PDF file's contents will be displayed in the Viewer window after the password has been entered. Make sure that you already have either Adobe® Acrobat® or Adobe® Reader® installed in your computer. It is also asked that you take note that printing-restricted PDF files cannot be imported into Rack2-Filer.

(Note)
Since Rack2-Filer does not support the"When inserting pages from password protected and printing-restricted PDF files, attach source files instead of showing actual contents"function. it displays imported password attached PDF files in the "OFF" mode (See above)
Q12 How can I save files with divider sheets?
A12 1) Right-clicking the divider sheet and then clicking [Multi-Sheet Selection] will turn the entire page green.
2) Flip to the last page of the chapter (the page in front of the next divider sheet).
3) Right-click on the last page and perform [Export Pages...]
Q13 Can I view Rack2-Filer in a computer that has not had Rack2-Filer installed in it the same way I can with a Rack2-Filer installed computer?
A13 You can view such file(s) with computers that have not had Rack2-Filer installed in them by saving the file as "Rack2 Binder with embedded Viewer (Note.exe)" in Rack2-Filer (not in Rack2-Viewer).
Q14 What is the difference between"Copying original files" and"Linking to original files"when enabling [Retain source files by...], which is located under the [Page Insertion] tab
A14 The differences between"Copying original files" and"Linking to original files"are as follows:

<Copying original files>
(Note)
"Copying original files"copies and saves the original data into Rack2-Filer.
(Note)
Editing or changing data that has been entered into Rack2-Filer with "Copying original files" only modifies the data that has been copied into Rack2-Filer; the original data remains unchanged.

<Linking to original files>
(Note)
Since the only information imported into Rack2-Filer is linking information that is related to the original data, none of the original data is saved in Rack2-Filer.
(Note)
The image data that is stored in Rack2-Filer binders is not modified when when it is initially changed. However, Raku2 ImageWriter is started up when this data has been opened and saved again and Raku2 ImageWriter modifies this data.
Q15 How do I change PDF icons back to PDF icons after they have been changed into binder icons?
A15 Select [Current Program] if [Windows should open PDF files using the...] has been selected in the Rack2-Viewer settings. Then exit and and reboot Rack2-Filer to confirm that the icons have been changed back to normal.

(Note)
The "Windows should open PDF files using the..." setting is not supported by Windows Vista®, Windows® 7 or Windows® 8.
Q16 Can I specify a Windows® encrypted folder as the backup folder for the Rack2-Filer Backup & Restore Tool?
A16 Yes, you can.
Q17 Can I just install and use Rack2-Viewer?
A17 Please install the entire Rack2-Filer program. Rack2-Viewer does not run if the entire program has not been installed.
