Sustainable & High Quality PFU's Image Scanners

PFU has contributed to streamlining the operations of our customers that involve paper through reliable and high-functionality products. In recent years, there has been growing demand for manufacturing that contributes to a sustainable future, along with increasing interest in environmental conservation.
Here we introduce PFU's initiatives to reduce the environmental load by improving energy efficiency and using recycled materials while pursuing superior performance and usability.

Initiative to Reduce the Usage of Virgin Plastic

POINT 01 High durability is achieved through the use of recycled plastic

We contribute to the reduction of plastic waste by using recycled plastic.
The use of recycled plastic accounts for 13.8% and 25% (weight ratio to the total resin weight) for RICOH fi-8190/fi-8170 and ScanSnap iX2500, respectively*.
On the other hand, the careful selection of materials ensures high quality while preventing deterioration of durability. With consideration for unevenness of color, the locations that use the recycled plastic are carefully chosen, which ensures excellence in design.

* The percentage of recycled plastic content may vary depending on the condition of procurement.

Percentage of recycled plastic content

RICOH fi-8190 / fi-8170 13.8%, ScanSnap iX2500 25%

POINT 02 Packaging materials devoid of virgin plastic obtained from fossil resources

The packaging materials for main body and cables have been changed to the recycled plastic of pre-consumer materials, and pulp mold is used as a shock absorbing material, thus achieving non-use of fossil resource-derived virgin plastic*. Material alterations have no effect on a product's ability to withstand variations in humidity or vibrations during transit. The products are delivered in the same high quality as before, allowing you to utilize them with confidence.

* Coatings and adhesive portions (labels/tapes/protective films) are excluded. Materials for packaging may change depending on the procurement condition of parts. Applicable product: ScanSnap iX2500

Reduction of Environmental Load through the Use of Image Scanners

POINT 03 Reduction of CO2 emissions while improving user convenience

PFU's image scanners have significantly evolved with the emergence of new generations, including the improvement to the user interface in software and mounting of touch screen with high operability.
It makes the scan operation more efficient, and the operating time of the scanner and connected device becomes shorter, thereby reducing the power consumption of the entire operation and leading to a reduction in CO2 emissions.

Through these initiatives, PFU reduces the environmental impact of customers' operations and contributes to the realization of a sustainable society.

fi Series CO2 emissions

ScanSnap Series CO2 emissions

* The amount of activity that can occur in one year with a single product in a user operation environment is converted into CO2 emissions, and the environmental impact is quantitatively evaluated.

Energy Saving

POINT 04 Minimizing power consumption when the scanner is not in use

ScanSnap iX2500 consumes a power of 1.0W (USB connection and Wi-Fi off) in sleep mode.
Energy consumption is reduced while the scanner is not in use.

* During sleep mode, USB connection, and Wi-Fi off

POINT 05 Enhancing energy-saving effect by adjusting sleep mode

RICOH fi-8190/fi-8170 allows for the adjustment of sleep mode transition time in increments of 5 minutes. For example, reducing the transition time from the default setting of 15 minutes to 5 minutes reduces energy consumption by 35%. The environmental load can be minimized with the setting tailored to the usage scene.

* The scanner is used once to calculate the power consumption that can be generated in one hour.
