Introduction of FUJITSU Image Scanner fi-Series.

Introducing the fi-5650C—PFU's New A3 High-Speed Duplex ADF Scanner

-- A Speedy 55ppm / 110ipm Scanning Speed Equals Superior Document Processing Efficiency --

On July 27, 2004, PFU Ltd. (President: Yuji Hirose, Tokyo Head Office: Kawasaki, Kanagawa Prefecture) announced the launching of the fi-5650C, the most recent addition to its Fujitsu fi-series (*1) line-up. The fi-5650C is an A3 high-speed duplex automatic document feeder–only (ADF) model that is capable of scanning 55 pages per minute (ppm) / 110 images per minute (ipm) in color at 300dpi. This scanner, along with the similar flatbed equipped fi-5750C, launched in January, has been introduced with the objective of meeting users' needs and strengthening the fi-series line-up.

It must be noted that the Japanese government is currently considering whether or not to ratify a bill commonly known as the "e-Document Law". If passed, this law will permit businesses to digitally archive tax related documents (applications, invoices, receipts etc.), which must currently be stored in paper form. PFU anticipates that passing this law will result in an increased demand for high-speed document scanners.

The fi-5650C, which is capable of scanning 55ppm / 110ipm in color at 200dpi and 300dpi, was launched to meet such perceived demands.

fi-5650C’s main features:

  1. Able to scan at a speedy 55ppm / 110ipm
Achieving scanning speeds of 55ppm / 110ipm, when scanning A4 documents in color (200dpi, 300dpi), enables the fi-5650C to process large volumes of documents. Also, the ability to realize 30ppm/60ipm scanning speeds at 600dpi permits this scanner to meet the demanding level of precision required for print on demand (POD) applications.
  2. Superior Document Feeding
Since paper documents follow a virtually straight path when passing through the ADF, the fi-5650C is capable of smoothly feeding curled or wrinkled documents.
  3. Dual control panels
Dual control panels permit the fi-5650C to be operated from either side, resulting in easy left-handed and right handed loading and operation, while freeing users to place the scanner anywhere in the office.
  4. Ultrasonic Multi-feed Sensor (*2)
The fi-5650C is equipped with an ultrasonic multi-feed sensor that detects when two or more sheets of paper have been fed simultaneously. This function operates effectively, even when scanning mixed batches containing documents of varying weights, sizes and colors, reducing time spent on correcting multi-feeds.
  5. Imprinter Option (fi-565PR)
The fi-565PR imprinter option (40 character limit post imprinter) has been offered to meet the need to imprint codes on business forms. The fi-565PR imprinter option enables users to print letters and numbers on scanned documents, permitting improved document management.
