PFU Launches the fi-60F: An All New A6 Color Flatbed Document Scanner

-- Tops its Class in Compactness and Speed! --

On January 18, 2005, PFU Ltd. (President: Yuji Hirose, Tokyo Head office: Kawasaki, Kanagawa Prefecture) announced the launching of the fi-60F, the most recent addition to the Fujitsu fi-series⁽¹⁾ line-up. With the ability to scan a document in one second, not only is the fi-60F the fastest A6 color flatbed scanner in its class, it is also the smallest⁽²⁾. (First shipments are scheduled to begin on January 25, 2005)

In recent years, the introduction of the Customer Identification Law⁽³⁾ by the Japanese government has lead to an increase in job related duties requiring customer verification. The same trend has been observed in rental shops that require that their staff to register customers.

Customer verification related tasks frequently involve identifying customers through their identification cards. Since such tasks frequently entail the digitization of information printed on these cards, the need for front desk staff and bank tellers to be able to quickly and efficiently scan identification cards at high speeds have grown dramatically.

In order to answer these growing needs, PFU Ltd. has developed the fi-60F; an A6 color flatbed document scanner. Not only does the fi-60F have the smallest footprint in its class, it is also the fastest—able to digitize a single card one second!

The fi-60F's main features:

1. Able to scan a single document in one second. The fastest in its class!
   The fi-60F has been designed to scan a single A6 sized document in one second (200dpi, monochrome) in order to enable users to speedily digitize customer's cards. Furthermore, users only have to wait 0.5 seconds between scans.
2. No need to worry about how documents are placed!
   The fi-60F comes loaded with an auto-deskew function as well as an auto-size detection function. Since these functions automatically detect and correct any misaligned images, users do not have to waste valuable time correctly placing each document on the scanner. Furthermore, these functions even operate effectively when the scanner cover has been left open.
3. The smallest footprint in its class
   Being the most compact document scanner in its class [145mm(W) × 234mm (D) × 40mm(H)], the fi-60F is small enough to fit on even the most confined front counters. Thus, permitting users to scan identification cards immediately in front of their customers.
4. Environmentally friendly

• Super Green Product
  Not only is the fi-60F very small and very fast, it also qualifies as one of Fujitsu Group's "Super Green" products⁽⁴⁾. Much effort has gone into using lead-free solder, a mercury free light source, recyclable paint and other environmentally friendly methods in order to manufacture the fi-60F in the most environmentally friendly manner as possible.

  PFU Ltd. is a proud participant in the Energy Star Program and the fi-60F's energy efficiency has earned it the honor of being classified as an Energy Star product. (Power consumption when in sleep mode: 2W or less)
