- Link with cloud services. Speed up paper-driven processes at the office. -

PFU LIMITED (President/CEO: Fujio Wajima; Tokyo Headquarters: Kawasaki City, Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan) announces that it will begin releasing of its N1800 network scanner. The company's latest addition to its hugely popular ScanSnap lineup is the first network document scanner of its kind to offer Cloud linking features.*1 *2

ScanSnap N1800

The growth of Internet-based IT networks has opened the stage for businesses that want to take full advantage of services on the Cloud and created a large demand for scanners with network capabilities. To address this trend, PFU unveils its latest product, ScanSnap N1800. As a network scanner it is expandable to smoothly integrate with large business systems and link with various Cloud services, yet it is so easy to use in small offices that the company decided to market it under the ScanSnap brand.
ScanSnap N1800 has outstanding cost-performance, especially for a network scanner that can be incorporated into the intranet system of an organization. By emphasizing the device's linking features to Web services like Salesforce CRM, Google Docs and Evernote, PFU aims to improve the efficiency and productivity of everyone at the workplace and enrich the business style of the customer.*3

Product Features

1. A network scanner that can link to services on the Cloud.
ScanSnap N1800 comes ready with functions that enable users to e-mail, save and print scanned data through a network. More functions can be added through specialized applications called Add-ins. An Add-in which introduces a function for linking scanned data to Google Docs will be made available from May 2011. Other similar Add-ins for various Web services will follow, opening a wider range of possibilities with ScanSnap N1800

2. Easy to install. Easy to use. ScanSnap.

  1. Operation so simple that it can only be a ScanSnap.
ScanSnap N1800 scans documents at a speedy 20ppm/40ipm (A4 size color documents, portrait, 200/300dpi) and carries all the labor-saving automated functions that have become a staple of the ScanSnap series.*4 The scanner is operated from the its large, built-in 8.4-inch XGA touch panel which employs a very intuitive interface that makes data application a mere "One push" endeavor. Users can also check their scan results on the touch panel screen, so they never have to presort or rescan documents. When cases call for it, the touch panel will even display a software keyboard for entering data, so virtually any digitizing task can be done directly from ScanSnap N1800.
  2. Designed to be easy to place and setup.
ScanSnap N1800 is compact and smartly designed to allow most effective use of office space. The scanner's A4 size and small footprint makes it easy to place around the workplace. Configuring the scanner for installation onto the network is as easy as simply following the installation wizard on its large touch screen panel. ScanSnap N1800 also comes with advanced security features to ensure safe and secure operation among multiple users.

3. Flexible and expandable features to suit any business, from SOHO to large enterprises

  1. Connect with a variety of server types.
ScanSnap N1800 well suits the digitizing needs of offices that use a simple network made up of a file server and e-mail server. It also inherits the best features from its business-grade sibling, the fi-6010N network scanner, so it is right at home with more complex authentication-based (LDAP/LDAPS) networks, working together with application hubs like Microsoft Exchange Server, SharePoint and Fax servers.*5
All N1800 scanners also come with a Central Administration function which enables administrators to configure and manage multiple network scanners collectively from a server/console. This keeps operation costs down and gives administrators flexibility when configuring the scanners to changes in the network.
  2. Develop applications with ScanSnap N1800 SDK.
An SDK is freely available so that N1800 users can develop applications (Add-ins) that expand the device's functions.*6 Add-ins make it easy to incorporate ScanSnap N1800 into the business system of an organization.
  3. Customizable to suit the needs of each user.
Administrators can assign a sequence of data processing tasks (job sequence) to a single button on ScanSnap N1800 touch screen and customize menu settings to suit the work of a specific user or user group registered to the scanner. This way people who log on to the scanner will always find it optimized for them and easy to use.

About the fi-Series fi-6010N network scanner
The fi-6010N network scanner is part of the fi-Series business-grade scanner lineup which features a built-in hardware keyboard. Like ScanSnap N1800, cloud linking functions will also be made available for the fi-6010N via Add-ins. Add-ins are intended to be compatible for both scanners, so PFU shall carry out extensive scanner tests to ensure the Add-ins work properly during actual use.
