A "Failed to install ScanSnap Home. Do you want to delete the downloaded data?" Message Is Displayed (Windows)

When you install ScanSnap Home, if a "Failed to install ScanSnap Home. Do you want to delete the downloaded data?" message is displayed, follow the subsequent message to solve the problem.

When a "A folder or file access error occurred." message is displayed

The installation may have failed because a folder or file cannot be accessed. Install ScanSnap Home again after performing the following:

  • Check if you have access permission for the folder or file

    • In the case that the path which is displayed in the main window is for a folder

      When you open File Explorer to open the folder, if a "You don't currently have permission to access this folder. Click Continue to permanently get access to this folder." message is displayed, click the [Continue] button so that you will be able to access the folder, and then install ScanSnap Home again.

      If you can open the folder without any problems, check whether you can copy and save a file to this folder. If you cannot save the file to the folder because of an error, obtain write authority to the folder, and then install ScanSnap Home again.

    • In the case that the path which is displayed in the main window is for a file

      Obtain permission for deleting a file, to the file, and delete the file. Then, install ScanSnap Home again.

  • Temporarily stop the security software application operations that are running

    When you are using security software application on your computer, stop the operations that are running temporarily, and install ScanSnap Home again.

    After the installation of ScanSnap Home, restart the security software immediately.

    For details about how to temporarily stop and restart the security software, refer to the manual of the security software that you are using.

    ATTENTION
    • While the security software is stopped, do not perform any operations other than the installation of ScanSnap Home, such as the registration of a ScanSnap account.

    Note that, depending on the security software application, the error may not be solved because some of the security software applications may not be able to be stopped completely. In that case, perform a clean boot on your computer, and install ScanSnap Home.

When a "The installation cannot be performed because a process is running in ScanSnap Home. Wait until the process is complete and then retry the installation." message is displayed

Another process is running in ScanSnap Home.

Wait for a while and install ScanSnap Home again.

When a "The installation cannot be performed because a process is running in ScanSnap Home. Uninstall ScanSnap Home, and then install it again." message is displayed

The files of ScanSnap Home may have been corrupted or located out of place.

Display the [Programs and Features] window, uninstall ScanSnap Home, and then install ScanSnap Home again.

When a "The installation file you downloaded may be incomplete." or "An unexpected error" is displayed

A security software may be preventing the ScanSnap Home installation file from running.

Use the offline installer and install ScanSnap Home again in the following procedure.

  1. Download an offline installer.

    Click [Offline Installer] from here to download it.

  2. Stop the security software operations.

    After the installation of ScanSnap Home, restart the security software immediately.

    For details about how to temporarily stop and restart the security software, refer to the manual of the security software that you are using.

    ATTENTION
    • While the security software is stopped, do not perform any operations other than the installation of ScanSnap Home, such as the registration of a ScanSnap account.

  3. Start the offline installer to install ScanSnap Home.

Note that, depending on the security software application, the error may not be solved because some of the security software applications may not be able to be stopped completely. In this case, perform the following.

  • Perform a clean boot on your computer, and install ScanSnap Home

  • Uninstall the security software and install ScanSnap Home

    For details about how to uninstall the security software, refer to the manual of the security software that you are using.

HINT
  • If you click the [No] button in the message window, ScanSnap Home skips the installer download process when it is installed again.

  • If more than one security software is installed on the computer, the software may be preventing the ScanSnap Home installation file form running unintentionally. If security software that is not being used is installed, uninstall it.
