Removing the Newspaper Background Color

When the background of an image created from a newspaper that you scanned is dark, you can remove the background color to make text clearly visible.

TIP

If you scan the newspaper with [B & W] selected for [Color mode] in the scan settings, [Remove Newspaper Background Color] cannot be applied for the scanned image.
If the image created from the newspaper that you scanned contains diagrams or photographs, the color may become brighter or pale colors may disappear by removing the background color from the scanned image.

The background in an image created from the following newspaper may not be removed.
- Newspaper with shadow of fold
- Print-through newspaper
- Newspaper with a deep colored background
- Newspaper scanned with the [Thicken color images] checkbox is selected in the [Feed option] window

Windows

If fingers are captured in the images created from the newspaper that you scanned, fill in the captured finger areas before you remove the newspaper background color.

To remove the background color of scanned images, delete the work data attached to the scanned images.

Deleting Work Data from a Scanned Image

The image quality may deteriorate if the background color is removed repeatedly for the same page of scanned images.

Display the Scan Window of ScanSnap Home on the computer.
- To Display the Scan Window
Select [Open ScanSnap Home] in the menu that appears when you click at the top of the scan window to display the Main Window.
In the content data record list view, select a content data record with an image which contains a page with a background color that you want to remove.
Select [Open with ScanSnap Home Viewer] in the menu that appears when you right-click the content data record to display the viewer window.
Click [Switch View] on the [Home] tab to display the submenu and select [Show all] or [Show Pages Panel] from the submenu.
Select a page in which the background color is to be deleted in the Pages Panel.
When you delete the background color on multiple pages, select each page while holding down the [Ctrl] key or [Shift] key.
Click .
Click the [File] tab and select [Save] or [Save as] from the file menu.

The background color of the image created from the newspaper is deleted, and characters become clearly visible.

macOS

If fingers are captured in the images created from the newspaper that you scanned, fill in the captured finger areas before you remove the newspaper background color.

Click .
Click the [Save and Exit] button.

The background color of the image created from the newspaper is deleted, and characters become clearly visible.
