A Message Is Displayed, Indicating That a License Cannot Be Activated When You Setup the ScanSnap (ScanSnap Home 2.9 or Earlier)
ScanSnap Home 2.10 or later does not require license activation.
To update ScanSnap Home to the latest, refer to To Update the Software.
If a message indicating that a license cannot be activated is displayed when you connect the ScanSnap to a computer, check the following:
- Is the connected ScanSnap already using four licenses?Is the connected ScanSnap already using one license?
When you are using a ScanSnap account
Four ScanSnap Home licenses are allowed for one ScanSnap unit.
One ScanSnap Home license is allowed for one ScanSnap unit.
If a license could not be activated when you setup the ScanSnap, check the following:
- Activating a license on a computer with a ScanSnap account that is already being used on another computer

When a license for the ScanSnap that you want to use is activated with a ScanSnap account on another computer or user account, you can use the same ScanSnap account to sign in.
Click the [OK] button in the message window that appears to display the preferences window.
Sign in with a ScanSnap account that is being used to activate a license for the ScanSnap on another computer or with another user account on the same computer.

Deactivate an unnecessary license on another computer or with another user account on the same computer, and then activate the a license again on a computer that is connected to the ScanSnap.
HINTWhen multiple user accounts are set in a computer, check if a license for the ScanSnap is activated by each user account. If a license is activated by each user account, you must deactivate the license with those user accounts.

Display the main window of ScanSnap Home on another computer that you are using the ScanSnap with.

Select [Settings] in the menu → [Preferences] to display the preferences window.
Select the [Account] tab and check that the displayed license number is the same as the serial number for the ScanSnap that you are using.

Deactivate the license with one of the following methods:

In the case that you have signed in with a ScanSnap account
Click [To remove the license activation, click Here] to display the ScanSnap account management page.
Sign in by entering an e-mail address and a password for a ScanSnap account that you want to cancel the license activation for.
Click [Remove license activation] for [Current License Information].
HINTWhen "SimpleActivation" is displayed in [Current License Information], it indicates that the license has been activated without signing in with a ScanSnap account.
Cancel the license activation with the computer that you are using with the ScanSnap whose name is displayed under [Current license number].
Click the [Remove] button to remove the current license number.
HINTTo deactivate a license on a mobile device, sign in to the ScanSnap account management page, then then tap [Remove license activation] for [Current License Information].

Perform one of the following:
Click the [Sign out] button to deactivate a license

Click the [Cancel] button in the message window that appears.
In the [ScanSnap Home - Connecting ScanSnap] window (Connection with the ScanSnap), click the [Retry] button.
Deactivate an unnecessary license on another computer or with another user account on the same computer, and then activate the a license again on a computer that is connected to the ScanSnap.

in the application list that appears when you click Launchpad in the Dock.

If the problem persists even after the above actions are taken, deactivate the license that has been activated for the connected ScanSnap, by clicking the [Remove] button in the window displayed when you click the [Redo activation] button in the message window that appears.
After the license is deactivated, the license is automatically activated for the connected ScanSnap.
ATTENTIONBy clicking the [Remove] button in the window displayed when you click the [Redo activation] button in the message window that appears, all licenses for the connected ScanSnap are deactivated.
To continue to use the ScanSnap (which a license has been deactivated for) on another computer or with another user account on the same computer, you need to activate a license again.
If the problem persists even after the above actions are taken, deactivate the license that has been activated for the connected ScanSnap, by clicking the [Remove] button in the window displayed when you click the [Redo activation] button in the message window that appears.
