[BOOT MODE] Is Displayed on the Touch Panel

When you open the ADF paper chute (cover) of the ScanSnap, if the message [BOOT MODE] is displayed, check the following:

Was the power cable disconnected or was the wireless access point turned off while updating the firmware?

Failing to update the firmware might display the message [BOOT MODE] when the ScanSnap is turned on at a later time.

HINT
  • An update of the firmware may be performed when using the ScanSnap for the first time or when adding the ScanSnap to ScanSnap Home.

If this message is displayed, check the connection status of the ScanSnap and a computer.

  • When the ScanSnap is connected to a computer via Wi-Fi

    Check that there are no problems with the Wi-Fi environment. For example, the wireless access point is turned on or there are no errors or malfunctions with the wireless access point.

  • When the ScanSnap is connected to a computer via a USB cable

    Check that the USB cable is connected to the ScanSnap or to a computer properly,

After checking, update the firmware again in the following procedure:

  1. Display the main window of ScanSnap Home.

    For details, refer to To Display the Main Window.

  2. Select [Settings] in the menu → [Preferences] to display the preferences window.

  3. Check that the ScanSnap that you are using is in the list of ScanSnap units that is located in [Scanner information] in the [Scanner] tab.

    HINT
    • The [Scanner] tab can be displayed from the ScanSnap Home menu which appears when you right-click the ScanSnap Home icon in the notification area of the taskbar.

      For details about ScanSnap Home menus, refer to Icon (Indicator for ScanSnap Connection Status) and Menus.

    • When the ScanSnap that you are using is displayed

      Select the ScanSnap that you are using, and click the [Update] button.

    • When the ScanSnap that you are using is not displayed

      Click the [Add] button to add the ScanSnap to be used.

      During the process of adding the ScanSnap, the update of firmware is also performed.

  1. Display the main window of ScanSnap Home.

    Click the [ScanSnap Home] icon ScanSnap Home Icon in the application list that appears when you click Launchpad in the Dock.

  2. Select [ScanSnap Home] on the menu bar → [Preferences] to display the preferences window.

  3. Check that the ScanSnap that you are using is in the list of ScanSnap units that is located in [Scanner information] in the [Scanner] tab.

    HINT
    • The [Scanner] tab can be displayed from the ScanSnap Home menu which appears when you click the ScanSnap Home icon in the menu bar.

      For details about ScanSnap Home menus, refer to Icon (Indicator for ScanSnap Connection Status) and Menus.

    • When the ScanSnap that you are using is displayed

      Select the ScanSnap that you are using, and click the [Update] button.

    • When the ScanSnap that you are using is not displayed

      Click the [Add] button to add the ScanSnap to be used.

      During the process of adding the ScanSnap, the update of firmware is also performed.
