Firmware Update Fails

If the firmware update for the ScanSnap fails, check the following:

If you fail to update the firmware with the ScanSnap connected to a computer via Wi-Fi, connect the ScanSnap to the computer via a USB cable and then update the firmware.

Was the network disconnected while the firmware data is being downloaded?

If the network is disconnected while the firmware data is being downloaded, downloading the firmware data is not completed successfully and the firmware cannot be updated.

Check the network environment and update the firmware again in the following procedure:

  1. Connect the computer to the network.

  2. Close the ADF paper chute (cover) to turn off the ScanSnap, then open the ADF paper chute (cover) to turn it back on.

    HINT
    • When the startup mode of the ScanSnap is set to [Fast], the ScanSnap is not turned off even if you close the ADF paper chute (cover).

      Unplug the power cable from the AC outlet and plug it back in again, and then open the ADF paper chute (cover).

  3. Update the firmware.

    • When the [Connection with the ScanSnap] window is displayed on the computer

      Click the [Retry] button.

    • When the [Connection with the ScanSnap] window is not displayed on the computer

      Update the firmware in the [ScanSnap - Firmware Update].

  1. Connect the computer to the network.

  2. Connect the computer and the ScanSnap with a USB cable.

    Connect the USB cable to a USB 2.0 port.

  3. Close the ADF paper chute (cover) to turn off the ScanSnap, then open the ADF paper chute (cover) to turn it back on.

    Close the feed guide to turn off the ScanSnap, then open the feed guide to turn it back on.

    In that case, press the [Stop] button for 3 seconds or longer to turn off the ScanSnap, then press the [Scan] button or the [Stop] button to turn it back on.

  4. Update the firmware.

    • When the [Connection with the ScanSnap] window is displayed on the computer

      Click the [Retry] button.

    • When the [Connection with the ScanSnap] window is not displayed on the computer

      Update the firmware in the [ScanSnap - Firmware Update].

Is "BOOT MODE" displayed on the touch panel of the ScanSnap?

When "BOOT MODE" is displayed on the touch panel of the ScanSnap, refer to [BOOT MODE] Is Displayed on the Touch Panel to take measures accordingly.

Are the computer and the ScanSnap connected via a USB cable?

To update the firmware, the ScanSnap and a computer need to be connected via a USB cable.

Update the firmware again in the following procedure:

  1. Connect the computer and the ScanSnap with a USB cable.

    Connect the USB cable to a USB 2.0 port.

  2. Close the ADF paper chute (cover) to turn off the ScanSnap, then open the ADF paper chute (cover) to turn it back on.

    Close the feed guide to turn off the ScanSnap, then open the feed guide to turn it back on.

    In that case, press the [Stop] button for 3 seconds or longer to turn off the ScanSnap, then press the [Scan] button or the [Stop] button to turn it back on.

  3. Update the firmware.

    • When the [Connection with the ScanSnap] window is displayed on the computer

      Click the [Retry] button.

    • When the [Connection with the ScanSnap] window is not displayed on the computer

      Update the firmware in the [ScanSnap - Firmware Update].

Is a USB 3.0 port on the computer used?

Update the firmware again in the following procedure:

  1. Connect the ScanSnap to a computer with a USB cable by using the USB 2.0 port on the computer.

  2. Close the ADF paper chute (cover) to turn off the ScanSnap.

  3. Restart the computer.

  4. Open the ADF paper chute (cover) of the ScanSnap to turn the power on.

  5. Update the firmware again.
