A Searchable PDF File Cannot Be Created

When a searchable PDF cannot be created for an image of a document scanned with the ScanSnap, check the following:

Are the scan settings configured to create searchable PDF files?

Change the scan settings to create searchable PDF files in the following procedure:

  • You can create a searchable PDF in the following cases:

    • Saving a scanned image to a local or network folder

      • When the document type is [Documents]

      • When the document type is [Business Cards], [PC (Scan to file)] is selected for [Type] in [Managing options], and an option other than [Quick Menu] is selected for [Send to]

    • Saving a scanned image in a cloud service by using ScanSnap Cloud

      When the document type is [Documents], [Business Cards], or [Receipts]

    • When the document type is [Documents]

    • When the document type is [Business Cards], [PC (Scan to file)] is selected for [Type] in [Managing options], and an option other than [Quick Menu] is selected for [Send to]

  1. Click the [Scan] button at the top of the main window of ScanSnap Home to display the scan window.

    If the main window is not already displayed, refer to To Display the Main Window.

  2. Select the profile that you are using from the profile list.

  3. Click Edit Profiles to display the [Edit profiles] window.

  4. Click the [Option] button in [File format] in [Scan settings] to display the [PDF file option] window.

  5. Select the [Convert to Searchable PDF] checkbox.

  • You can create a searchable PDF in the following cases:

    • Saving a scanned image to a local or network folder

      • When the document type is [Documents]

      • When the document type is [Business Cards], [Mac (Scan to file)] is selected for [Type] in [Managing options], and an option other than [Quick Menu] is selected for [Send to]

    • Saving a scanned image in a cloud service by using ScanSnap Cloud

      When the document type is [Documents], [Business Cards], or [Receipts]

    • When the document type is [Documents]

    • When the document type is [Business Cards], [Mac (Scan to file)] is selected for [Type] in [Managing options], and an option other than [Quick Menu] is selected for [Send to]

  1. Click the [Scan] button at the top of the main window of ScanSnap Home to display the scan window.

    If the main window is not already displayed, click the [ScanSnap Home] icon ScanSnap Home Icon in the application list that appears when you click Launchpad in the Dock.

  2. Select the profile that you are using from the profile list.

  3. Click Edit Profiles to display the [Edit profiles] window.

  4. Click the [Option] button in [File format] in [Scan settings] to display the [PDF file option] window.

  5. Select the [Convert to Searchable PDF] checkbox.

 

Did you turn off or restart the computer while creating searchable PDF files? (Windows)

After scanning documents with the ScanSnap, if you turn off or restart the computer before the creation of searchable PDF files is complete, the searchable PDF files may not be created.

Do not turn off or restart the computer until the creation of searchable PDF files is complete.

If searchable PDF files could not be created from a content data record, you can manually convert images in the content data record to searchable PDF files. For details, refer to Converting Content Data Records into Searchable Ones.

Did you install an OCR pack which is needed on your computer when you reinstalled ScanSnap Home? (Windows)

If you have uninstalled and then reinstalled ScanSnap Home, an OCR pack which is needed on your computer may not be installed.

If necessary, refer to OCR Pack (Windows) for installing an OCR pack.
