Multifeed

When a multifeed occurs, the Function Number Display of the scanner's operator panel alternates between the following letter and number to indicate the error code.

"J" and "2"

 

When this error is found, open the ADF and remove the documents.

 

If multifeeds occur frequently, check the following points and take necessary actions.

Does the paper condition fulfill the requirements?	No	Use the paper that fulfills the requirements described in Paper Quality.
Yes

If you are using the Carrier Sheet, is [Double-page spread] specified for [Scan Type] in the scanner driver's setup dialog box?	No	Specify [Double-page spread] for [Scan Type] in the scanner driver's setup dialog box.
Yes

When multifeed detection is enabled, are the conditions for an accurate detection fulfilled?	No	Fulfill the multifeed detection conditions for an accurate multifeed detection.
Yes

Did you fan the documents before loading them?	No	Fan the documents by referring to How to Fan Documents.
Yes

Have the documents just been printed with a copy machine or laser printer?	Yes	Fan the documents three to four times to remove static electricity off the documents.
No

Is the bundle of documents thinner than 5 mm?	No	Reduce the amount of the documents.
Yes

Are the pad assy and pick roller installed correctly?	No	Install the pad assy and pick roller correctly.
Yes

Are the pad assy and pick roller dirty?	Yes	Clean the pad assy and pick roller.
No

Are the pad assy and pick roller worn out?	Yes	Replace the pad assy and pick roller with new ones.
No
