Creating Digital Albums to Keep Children's Works

Scan your child's works and sketch books, and save them as PDF files. Changing the name of a scanned image to a detailed title after performing a scan, such as "Illustrated diary in summer during the first grade", enables you to organize scanned images in a digital album so that you can share your memories anytime.

The use of an optional Carrier Sheet is recommended for work that can be damaged quite easily, work that might make the inside of the scanner dirty during a scan, and work that is polygonal in shape.

A thick document can be scanned with the ScanSnap. For details, refer to Documents That Can Be Scanned with the ScanSnap.

  1. Prepare documents to be scanned with the ScanSnap.

    Prepare your child's works.

  2. Open the ADF paper chute (cover) of the ScanSnap to turn the power on. Hold the right side of the ADF paper chute (cover) of the ScanSnap then open it or press the [Scan] button to turn it on. Open the feed guide of the ScanSnap to turn the power on.

    When the ADF paper chute (cover) is opened, the extension will rise automatically.

  3. Open the ADF paper chute (cover) of the ScanSnap to turn the power on. Hold the right side of the ADF paper chute (cover) of the ScanSnap then open it or press the [Scan] button to turn it on. Open the feed guide of the ScanSnap to turn the power on.

  4. Press the [Scan] button or [Stop] button on the ScanSnap to turn the power on.

  5. Prepare a profile in ScanSnap Home.
    1. Click the [Scan] button at the top of the Main Window of ScanSnap Home to display the Scan Window.

      If the main window is not already displayed, refer to To Display the Main Window.

      If the main window is not already displayed, click the [ScanSnap Home] icon ScanSnap Home Icon in the application list that appears when you click Launchpad in the Dock.

       

    2. Click Profile Adding Icon to display the [Add new profile] Window.
    3. Select [Children's Works] from the template list.

      By default, the images created from the document that you scanned are saved in the [Child's works] folder.

      If you change the save destination for scanned images to a new save destination, specify the new save destination in [Save to] under [Managing options].

      If necessary, change other scan settings.

    4. Click the [Option] button for [Feed] to display the [Feed option] Window. Click the [Option] button for [Manual Feeder] in [Feed mode setting] to display the [Feed option] Window.
    5. Click the [Carrier sheet] button to display the [Carrier Sheet settings] window.
    6. Select [two separate images (front and back)] in [Save as] and click the [OK] button.
      HINT
      • When the size of a scanned image to be saved becomes smaller than the size of the original document or a part of the image may appear missing, select [Carrier Sheet size] in [Paper size], and then scan the document.

    7. Clear the [Merge both sides of an image] checkbox, and click the [OK] button.
    8. Click the [Add] button to add this profile to the profile list in the scan window.
  6. In the home screen on the touch panel, select the profile that you added in step 3 from the profile list.
  7. Check that the profile that you added in step 3 is selected in the profile list in the scan window.
  8. Scan a document with the ScanSnap.

    1. Place the Background Pad on the front side of the ScanSnap.

    3. Press the [Scan] button to start scanning the document.

      When scanning multiple works or scanning a work at various angles, place the next work to be scanned and press the [Scan] button.

      ATTENTION
      • Do not cover the white sheets on the ScanSnap with your hands or with something else while scanning a document. The color reproducibility of the scanned image will be affected.

      • Do not shake the table or desk when the ScanSnap is being used or move the document while it is being scanned. Doing so may distort the scanned image or blur the color.

      • The timed mode enables you to scan documents automatically without pressing the [Scan] button. For details, refer to Scanning Documents Using Timed Mode.

    4. Press the [Stop] button to finish scanning documents.
    5. Select a method to save scanned images in the [ScanSnap Home - Image scanning and file saving] window of ScanSnap Home.

      Select a method to save a document according to the document type, and then click the [Save this image] button.

      • Click the [Check/Correct] button in the [ScanSnap Home - Image scanning and file saving] window to correct the scanned image.

    6. Pull out the extension and the stacker on the ADF paper chute (cover).

    9. Pull out the extension on the ADF paper chute (cover) and open the stacker.

    10. Open the Carrier Sheet to bind the document.

      Note that the front side of the Carrier Sheet has a black and white pattern at the top and a thick vertical line in the upper right-hand corner.

    11. Load the Carrier Sheet with the end which has the black and white pattern as the leading edge into the ScanSnap.

    12. Press the [Scan] button. Press the [Scan] button.
      HINT
      • In the following cases, place a blank (white) sheet of paper underneath the document when scanning:

        • The scanned image is not saved with the same length and width as those of the document

        • Shadows appear around the edges of the scanned image

        • Black lines appear around the edges of a uniquely shaped cutting document if you place the document in a Carrier Sheet

    13. Load a document in the ADF paper chute (cover).

      Load the document face-down and head-first with the back facing you (when loading multiple documents, the last page is on the top). Adjust the number of documents so that they do not go beyond the reference marks and are kept within the side guides when they are loaded.

    14. Align the side guides with both ends of the documents.

      Hold each side guide in the middle to adjust them. Otherwise, the documents may be fed skewed during scanning.

    15. Insert the part with the black and white pattern straight into the manual feeder, with the front side of the Carrier Sheet facing up. Insert the part with the black and white pattern straight into the feeding section of the ScanSnap, with the front side of the Carrier Sheet facing up.

      Make sure that the Carrier Sheet is fed into the ScanSnap and is held firmly.

      ATTENTION
      • The document comes out from the back of the ScanSnap during the scan.

        Leave space (about the length of the Carrier Sheet) at the back of the ScanSnap.

      • You can scan a document with the ADF paper chute (cover) closed.

      ATTENTION
      • Scanning the Carrier Sheet with the output guide of the ScanSnap open causes a paper jam. Scan the Carrier Sheet with the output guide closed.

    16. Press the [Scan] button. Press the [Scan] button.

    17. Press the [Scan] button. Press the [Scan] button.
    18. Press the [Scan/Stop] button to start scanning the document. Press the [Scan] button to start scanning the document.

      To continue scanning, turn over the Carrier Sheet and insert it as described in step 5 (b). When the document is inserted, scanning starts automatically.

      ATTENTION
      • Be sure to scan the front and back sides of the Carrier Sheet in this order.

    19. Press the [Scan/Stop] button to finish scanning documents. Press the [Scan] button to finish scanning documents.

      • In the following cases, place a blank (white) sheet of paper underneath the document when scanning:

        • The scanned image is not saved with the same length and width as those of the document

        • Shadows appear around the edges of the scanned image

  9. Rename the title of the content data record created from the document that you scanned.
    1. Select a folder that you specified for the save destination in the folder list view in the main window of ScanSnap Home.

    2. Select the content data records created from the works that you scanned in the content data record list view.

    3. Select [Rename] in the menu that appears when you right-click the content data record, and enter a detailed title that describes the contents of the work, in the input field.

    3. Select [Change the title] in the menu that appears when you click a content data record while pressing the [control] key and enter a detailed title that describes the contents of the work, in the input filed.

     

The images of the work that you scanned is saved in the folder that you specified with a title that describes the contents of the work.
